Our History
Clive Hitchens experience is internationally renowned. In New Zealand he was honored as 1988 Chef of the Year. From there he traveled to London and became sous chef for esteemed caterer Alison Price & Company. There, Clive directed all events at Cartier’s Bond Street location, including parties for Baron de Rothchild and marketing events for Virgin Atlantic. Clive created the food for Prince Charles’ opening of the Saintsbury Wing for the National Gallery, and celebrated Christmas 1991 as Elton John’s personal chef. After coming to the United States Clive embarked on his own catering venture by starting CW Catering which began in 1996 and became established in Berkeley. Once becoming familiar with the economy and marketplace here in the U.S. Clive ventured on to making “The” perfect New Zealand meat pie and selling them at the local farmer’s markets around the bay area. The feedback was unanimous from “kiwi’s” and “yanks” alike; he must find a location and begin serious production. Hence, the finding of “The Croll’s” building in Alameda. This historic landmark has proven to be the perfect fit of old time NZ pub atmosphere combined with family friendly dining. Clive has once again paired a marvelous menu to suit the location.
